Nashua, NH — In a quiet corner of New Hampshire, one eighth-grade student is preparing to make noise on the world stage. Walter Cotito, a rising martial arts talent and student at Wellheart Public Charter School in Merrimack, will represent the United States this November at the Amateur Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) World Championships in Loutraki, Greece. Competing in the 15-and-under division, Walter’s journey is a testament to grit, family support, and the power of flexible public education.

Attending school in person three days a week, Walter completes his remaining coursework from home—freeing up time for gym sessions, recovery, and mentorship from his trainers. His family plays a vital role, guiding his at-home learning and ensuring he stays on track academically while pursuing excellence in the ring.
